High School Diploma/ GED Test FAQs...

1.  What's the difference between a high school diploma and the
GED?

The GED itself is a
test made up of five smaller tests.  Anyone
may take the test at any time by registering and paying; however,
we strongly encourage students to study and prepare
beforehand.  If you take and pass the GED test, you will receive
a certificate from the state of California.  Some employers and
schools may accept the GED as a high school diploma equivalent.

The high school diploma program is more comprehensive,
including academic classes, if necessary, the CAHSEE (California
High School Exit Exam), and perhaps more testing.

2.  How long will the program take?  When will I be able to
receive my high school diploma?

There is no one answer for this question.  All of our courses are
self-paced.  The length of a class is determined by how long it
takes a student to finish all of the requirements.  The more often
you come to class and complete passing grade level work, the
faster you'll work towards graduation.  The fastest way to
receive your high school diploma or to pass the GED test is to
get started working today, set your goals, stick to them, and
complete the program.

3.  What do I need to get started?

All new students must take the TABE (Tests of Adult Basic
Education) to determine their reading score.  The results of the
test assist in proper student placement.  If you're working
towards a high school diploma, you will need a set of transcripts
from the
last school at which you completed credits listing
classes taken, grades, and credits earned.  You can obtain a
copy of your transcript by contacting the school directly in which
you last completed credits.

4.  What are the fees?

Students taking a class for
high school credit pay a class material
fee.  These fees range from $
10.00 to $30.00 per class.

Minor concurrent high school students are exempt from material
fees, except Adult Independent Studies (AIS) courses.

The entire battery for the GED test currently costs $110.
Make-up tests for specific subjects are $25 per test.  The school
strongly encourages you to prepare for the exam before
attempting to complete it.

5.  At my last school, I only needed fifteen more credits to
graduate.  May I just finish up those credits?

Each school and/or district has different graduation
requirements.  You may need more or less credits and/ or tests
to graduate with us.  Evaluation of your transcripts is the
only
way of determining what requirements you still need to complete
to receive a high school diploma through our school.  (Please
see Question #3)

6.  The semester has already started.  So, when can I register?

Our classes are open entry.  You may
register at any time during
a term.
Adult Basic Education

Classes in Basic Reading, Basic Language Arts, and Basic Math
are also available.

These classes build fundamental reading, writing, and math skills.
